The Real Story of Christopher Columbus

About this lecture

In this lecture, the speaker unpacks the real history of Christopher Columbus — from the documented atrocities he committed against Indigenous peoples to his fanatical desire to wage war against Muslims — and traces how a genocider came to be celebrated as a federal American holiday through the story of Italian-American persecution and the search for belonging. Drawing on Quranic wisdom from Surat al-Qasas and the example of Malcolm X, the speaker challenges Muslims and all people to examine whether the symbols they take pride in are truly worthy of that pride, and to align their loyalties with truth and justice above all else.
