Who we are

Halal Tube is a free Islamic lecture library at https://www.halaltube.com. Browsing the site is free and open to everyone — no account required. Creating an account is optional and only needed to post comments, save favorites, or create playlists.

What data we collect

If you browse without signing in

Halal Tube does not use Google Analytics or any third-party advertising or tracking cookies. We collect two kinds of anonymous, first-party data instead:

• Aggregate traffic analytics, via the cookieless analytics service Umami (which pages are visited, referring sites, approximate country, device type). Umami does not use cookies and cannot identify you individually.
• Engagement analytics, stored directly in our own database, such as which format (video, audio, or transcript) a lecture is consumed in, playback progress, and view counts. These events are tied to a random, anonymous identifier (not to your identity) unless you are signed in, in which case they are also linked to your account so features like watch history and "continue where you left off" work. This identifier lives in a non-tracking cookie used only to group your own activity together — see Cookies below.

If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, we do not record engagement analytics for that visit.

If you sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook

When you create an account we receive the following information from your chosen sign-in provider and store it in our database:

• Email address
• Display name (from your provider profile)
• Profile photo URL (from your provider profile)

We also store content you create on the site: comments you submit, lectures you save to favorites, and playlists you create.

How we use your data

• To authenticate you and maintain your session across visits
• To save your favorites and playlists so they are available on any device
• To attribute comments to your account name

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing. We do not use your data for advertising.

Comments

All submitted comments are held for admin review before appearing publicly on the site. Approved comments display your chosen display name and comment text on the relevant lecture page. You can delete your own comments at any time from your profile at /profile/comments.

Cookies

Halal Tube does not use any advertising or third-party tracking cookies, and we do not show a cookie consent banner because we do not need one — Umami is cookieless, and the cookies below are not used for tracking you across sites or for advertising.

Visitors who are not signed in

We set one non-tracking cookie, ht_sid, containing a random anonymous identifier. It exists only to group your own activity together (e.g. so a lecture isn't counted as "viewed" twice in the same sitting) and carries no personal information. YouTube may also set cookies when you play an embedded video — see YouTube embeds below.

Signed-in users

When you sign in, Supabase sets secure HTTP-only session cookies (with names starting with sb-) to keep you authenticated between page visits. These cookies are cleared when you sign out or when they expire automatically.

Third-party services

Umami (traffic analytics)

We use Umami, a cookieless, privacy-focused analytics service, to understand aggregate site traffic (e.g. which pages are visited, referring sites, approximate country and device type). Umami does not use cookies and cannot identify individual visitors. See the Umami Privacy Policy.

YouTube embeds

Lectures on Halal Tube are streamed via embedded YouTube players. When you play a video, YouTube may set cookies and collect data about your interaction in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.

Supabase

Supabase provides authentication and hosts our database. Your account data (email, display name, profile photo) is stored on Supabase infrastructure in the United States. See the Supabase Privacy Policy.

Google Sign-In

If you choose to sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email, and profile photo with us. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Apple Sign In

If you choose to sign in with Apple, Apple shares your name and email address (or Apple's anonymized relay email) with us. See Apple's Privacy Policy.

Facebook Login

If you choose to sign in with Facebook, Facebook shares your name and email address with us. See Meta's Privacy Policy. Each provider's privacy policy governs what they do with your data during and after the sign-in process.

Data retention

Visitors without accounts

We do not store any personal data on our servers. Anonymous engagement analytics (tied to the random identifier described above, not to you) is kept for a bounded period — up to about 13 months — after which the underlying raw events are deleted; aggregated statistics with no session-level detail may be kept longer. Umami retains aggregate traffic data according to its own retention policy.

Account holders

Your email, display name, profile photo, comments, favorites, and playlists are retained while your account exists. Deleting your account permanently removes all associated data from our database.

Your rights

• View your data — visit /profile to see your account information, comments, favorites, and playlists at any time.
• Delete your account — email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my account" and we will permanently delete your account and all associated content within 30 days.
• Provider data — your sign-in provider (Google, Apple, or Facebook) may retain data about the sign-in event independently. Use their privacy controls to manage that data.
