Usama CanonUstadh Usama Canon (1978–2021, rahimahullah) was an American Muslim teacher and the founding director of Ta'leef Collective, a pioneering third-space community organization in Fremont, California, and Chicago, built around the ethos "Come as you are, to Islam as it is." A convert of African-American and European descent who embraced Islam in 1996, he studied with scholars in the US and abroad, served as a chaplain in California state prisons, and mentored thousands of converts and seekers. Diagnosed with ALS in 2018, he continued teaching with profound grace until his passing in 2021, leaving a transformative legacy in American Muslim community work.
