Yvonne Ridley is a British journalist, author, and political activist who became internationally known in 2001 when, as a reporter for the Sunday Express, she was captured by the Taliban while reporting undercover in Afghanistan. After her release — during which she promised to read the Qur'an — she studied Islam and embraced the faith in 2003. She has since worked as a broadcast journalist and commentator, authored books including "In the Hands of the Taliban," and speaks internationally on her journey to Islam, media bias, Palestine, and Muslim political affairs.
