Yaser Birjas – Islam and Love

About this lecture

In this lecture delivered at Stanford University, Sheikh Yasir Birjas explores the rich Islamic tradition on the topic of love — drawing on Quranic verses, Prophetic hadith, and the writings of classical Muslim scholars such as Ibn Hazm, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, and Ibn Kathir. He examines the Arabic concept of love (*hub*), its permissibility in Islamic law, its role in marriage and family life, and the beautiful examples of love and tenderness demonstrated by Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, with his wives. Far from being a taboo subject, love is shown to be a divinely recognised and celebrated aspect of human experience in Islam.
