Focusing on two widely misquoted narrations — the hadith about women being "deficient in intellect and religion," and the hadith about a wife "prostrating to her husband" — he draws on classical Arabic linguistics, the science of fiqh, and the commentaries of scholars such as Imam Al-Nawawi and Ibn Hajar Al-Asqalani to reveal how both hadiths have been distorted by rigid literalists and secular critics alike.
