Allah says in the Holy Qur’an about Prophet Muhammad, “A Messenger has come to you from among yourselves. Your suffering distresses him: he is deeply concerned for you and full of kindness and mercy towards the believers.” (9:128). Ustadh Usama Canon expounds on this Quranic statement.

Ustadh Usama Canon (1978–2021, rahimahullah) was an American Muslim teacher and the founding director of Ta'leef Collective, a pioneering third-space community organization in Fremont, California, and Chicago, built around the ethos "Come as you are, to Islam as it is." A convert of African-American and European descent who embraced Islam in 1996, he studied with scholars in the US and abroad, served as a chaplain in California state prisons, and mentored thousands of converts and seekers. Diagnosed with ALS in 2018, he continued teaching with profound grace until his passing in 2021, leaving a transformative legacy in American Muslim community work.
