Amr ibn al-As (ra): His Wicked Father & “Better” Brother | The Firsts | Sahaba | Dr. Omar Suleiman

About this lecture

Before diving into the famous sahabi Amr ibn al-As, Dr. Omar Suleiman traces the remarkable family that shaped him — beginning with his father, al-As ibn Wa'il, one of the most notorious enemies of the Prophet ﷺ, whose mockery and oppression is reflected in over ten instances of Quranic tafsir. The lecture then turns to Hisham ibn al-As, Amr's lesser-known half-brother, who embraced Islam early, endured nearly a decade of imprisonment in Makkah, made two hijras, and was ultimately martyred at the Battle of Yarmouk — a sahabi whose story deserves far greater recognition.
