Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr (ra): The Last Martyr Standing | The Firsts | Dr. Omar Suleiman

About this lecture

In this deeply moving episode of "The Firsts," Dr. Omar Suleiman traces the remarkable life of Abdullah ibn Zubayr رضي الله تعالى عنه — from his extraordinary birth during the hijrah, to his unmatched bravery, profound worship, and ultimate martyrdom in defense of Mecca. Drawing on the rich tapestry of his family — Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, Asma bint Abi Bakr, Az-Zubayr ibn al-Awam, Aisha, and Safiya bint Abdul Muttalib — Dr. Suleiman shows how every strand of his lineage shaped the last martyr standing at the Ka'bah. Framed through the lens of the ongoing suffering in Gaza, this lecture offers powerful perspective on sacrifice, steadfastness, and the eternal truth that it is souls — not bodies — that matter in the sight of Allah.
