Muslema PurmulShaykha Muslema Purmul is an American scholar of Afghan heritage, born in California. She earned degrees from UC San Diego and completed formal studies at Al-Azhar University in Egypt, including degrees in Islamic law (Shariah). She is co-founder and scholar-in-residence of The Majlis, a Southern California community institution, and has served as a chaplain and scholar for Muslim communities and MSAs across California. She speaks nationally on spirituality, women's scholarship, social justice, and the fiqh of contemporary life.
