Muhammad al-YaqoubiShaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi is a Syrian scholar from Damascus, descended from a distinguished family of scholars of the Maliki school and trained from childhood by his father at the Grand Umayyad Mosque. He became one of Syria's prominent scholars of hadith and Sharia before publicly condemning the Assad regime's violence in 2011 and leaving the country. Now teaching internationally, he is the author of works including "Refuting ISIS," an influential scholarly rebuttal of extremist ideology, and is a leading voice of traditional Sunni scholarship in the West.
