This is a very good talk, but it downplays the issue of the need for oppressed minorities to escape from oppressive and culturally imperialist majorities. Minorities don’t usually wish to break away unless their language, culture, well being or existence as a group has been put under threat by outsiders.
For example the Breton’s cannot name their children Breton names and must use French names because they are being persecuted by French Nationalist government policies, whilst the Rohingiya are being exterminated by the Burmese Buddhist majority. In cases like these it is obvious that the only realistic solution can be secession, just as Malcolm X at one time promoted for Black Americans. People must come before lines on a map.
Furthermore, despite what is said about fear of immigrants – the poor in many countries very often are the very real victims of the effects of mass immigration. When middle class people deny this effect upon the pay rates and employability of low skilled workers in their own country – their lack of concern for working class people is essentially identical to Islam.
Sorry I was listening and writing at the same time and wrote the wrong word – that should have read: When middle class people deny this effect upon the pay rates and employability of low skilled workers in their own country – their lack of concern for working class people is essentially identical to RACISM not Islam.
The European Union is not a great advance it is a tyrannical bureaucratic system that serves the corporations and empowers them against the individual. Furthermore the EU is involved in expanding institutionalized Islamophobia. Muslims supporting the EU are like Turkeys looking forwards to Christmas.
