Shaykh Yasir Qadhi mentioned the young brother who came to him and asked him “Why are the Muslims so backward if we have the truth?”
I was reminded of the hadith in which the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said “You will follow the ways of those who were before you until, if they went down a hole, you would follow them into the hole.” He was asked “Do you mean the Yahud and the Nasara?” and he answered “Who else?”
Obviously, these hadiths were meant to show us some glimpses of the ways in which Allah’s knowledge encompasses everything, even in what feel like dark times. Beyond hearing hadiths like this, anyone who has the concerns of this brother who spoke to Yasir Qadhi needs to constantly pray passionately that allah show him the truth and make him firm on it, along with doing whatever it takes to resolve issues about the faith — learn Arabic, study, reflect, learn about hadiths, travel, reflect, and so on.
Allah’s promise is “And those who struggle in Us, suely We will guide them on our paths.” (Sura 29).
Let this young brother and others like him not waste a minute over why Muslims are “so backward”; let them all work hard to learn knowledge of the religion and test this promise of Allah — from Sura 29 — for themselves. The more they struggle, the more guidance they will experience, inshaAllah.
