Great lecture.
Ok its sahih right than what is Sami Yusuf doing?
Does he not know about The Sahih Hadith or something?
Moeiz – From what I understand, Sh. Nuh would not consider the music of Sami Yusuf halal.
I rest my case, BTW someone should tell him.
Moiez – Tell who what? No one was debating with you nor was anyone disagreeing with you.
mr- r u telling me that yusuf islam is doing something wrong i saw sh hamza yusuf at one of his concerts and u explain that to me please im not trying to say what sh nuh said is wrong
sami yusuf’s music is not islamic, his concerts are full of mixing between men and women, he uses music instruments, him and yusuf islam are the same, there music is not valid
mohammed – I’m not telling you who’s wrong or who’s right. I’m saying based on the lecture above by Sh. Nuh, music like Sami Yusuf or Yusuf Islam would not be permissible.
Allah knows best.
I rest my case was just a throw in and when I said someone should tell him I meant someone should tell Yusuf Islam that this is what Shaikh Nuh said and it’s supported by sahih hadith. But Im not arguing. little things like this is what divides us these guys believe in La Illaha Ilallah Muhammad Arasoolallah than I love them for that sake.
We really spent far too much time bickering of such small things when we should be perfecting our manners and working on how we treat each other as humans (not just Muslims).
salam brothers
with all my love and respect for sheikh nuh, i would say here it’s only his understanding of the hadith, which is, i should admit, the understanding of the majority of ulama.. yet, there are considerable opinions about this topic that consider music permissible with constraints.. like that of sheikh qadi abu bakr ibn arabi, the maliki great scholar, and ibn hazm dhahiri and others…maybe brother yusuf islam found the latter opinion stronger.. so let’s just be more accepting to each other brothers… and Allah knows best
Seeker – good comment, people should worry about their state then worry about other peoples.
Islam, just like most other things, is not black and white: Sheikh Nuh upholds the strongest Islamic stance, which we should be aware of and strive for with respect to our personal development. If no one mentioned the harder opinions then we would be left with a watered-down deen.
Nevertheless, we should never condemn Muslims who take the non-majority opinion as long as it falls within legitimate difference of opinion; perhaps there was some specific reason or benefit in it for them.
Be easy on others and hard on yourself.
Thanks for pushing out more ad-supported music information to the World!
